Wakeboarding Gets Lift from Airborne Partner

by Guy Roginson

Guidance Aviation brought big air and cash to wakeboarding events as Memorial Day weekend kicked off "The Summer Sickness Series - Wakeboarding at The Point", taking place at Antelope Point Marina, Lake Powell. Competitors took part in the first of four events with the final event taking place on August 31st, where the winner will take home $5,045.00 in cash.  On Saturday, May 25, Trever Marquette, a Wakeology rider, won the first preliminary and took home $1,000 in cash in addition to sponsor products.  The next wakeboarding competitions to take place in the series at Antelope Point Marina, Lake Powell are June 15, July 20, and August 31.

The top sponsor, Guidance Aviation of Prescott, Arizona has put up a total of $8,045 for the event.  $3,000 is being distributed evenly amongst the winners of the first three preliminary events and the remaining $5,045 to be given to the finals winner.

"We are stoked to be joined by the wakeboarding industry in supporting this venue.  It is Guidance Aviation's goal to raise the bar and put The Point on the map as the nation's premier wakeboarding competition.  It's an honor to be accepted as family, at The Point, Lake Powell," stated John Stonecipher, President, Guidance Aviation.

"The Point is a fantastic venue for this competition.  Antelope Point Marina has the only Wakeboard Water Park with a two towered cable tow system in Arizona, open May to October, 7 days per week.  The Marina's complex makes up the largest floating facilities in the world.  The restaurant is a one acre floating island, complete with marina store, fuel docks, houseboat and ski boat slips, and of course Wi-Fi.  It is an ideal setting to accommodate all the competitors, fans, and families," remarks Rob Tubman, Antelope Point Marina Manager.

“I have been wakeboarding at Lake Powell for years, but now that Antelope Point Marina has built the two tower system, I’m having more fun than ever before.  We at Liquid Force are honored to be able to sponsor the Summer Sickness Series.  The Venue with the restaurant, bar and live music makes Antelope Point Marina a destination location within itself. I look forward to the upcoming events and watching people push the limits of wakeboarding," says Strat Nellos, Liquid Force Sales Representative.

"The atmosphere at Antelope Point was rockin with great music, the dock was loaded with enthusiastic fans, and the riders were shredding it up on the park.  What a great day at the lake!  A big shout out to Guidance Aviation and Antelope Point Marina for making this past event so successful and for taking the competition to a National Level.  Check out Wakeology's Facebook for photos of all the riders from the event," said Kimberly, Wakeology.

In addition to Antelope Point Marina and Guidance Aviation, other sponsors include Red Bull, Wakeology, Liquid Force, Switchblade, Hyperlite, Win Oil, Frog Eye, Taylor's Boats, and the Arizona Wakeboard Association.
